Our Cash Wise team recently visited Crofton Academy and Castleford Academy to help empower the next generation with important lessons about money.
The team delivered financial literacy lessons to 450 pupils over the two visits, aiming to give students the knowledge needed to manage their finances effectively.
The Year 8 students were divided into teams to tackle three interactive challenges including a budgeting task, a look at banking terminology, and a shopping list exercise where the youngsters had to find out the cost of items and what meals could be made using them.
The students gave positive feedback on the sessions, saying the tasks were fun and that they enjoyed the interactive activities. They said the sessions were interesting and helpful for learning to manage their money.
Sharon Lord, Subject Leader for Personal Development at Crofton Academy, said: “It makes a huge difference to our pupils to have guest speakers and presenters in to talk to them about so many important issues, help them see that they have choices they can make and show them that if they need help, there is always somewhere and someone to turn to.”
Cash Wise Manager, Amanda Sheridan, added: “Financial capability lessons in schools helps to prepare the groundwork for students to be able to confidently manage their incomes as adults. We’re always happy to help inspire the next generation to be savvy spenders in the future.”
