From house to home: Finding joy at Merrifield Manor

Dorothy Jayne Downes

We provide homes across the north of England for all people, from those just starting off in their own home, to couples, families and people who have lived in the same home for decades. We understand how important it is for our customers to have the right size home to suit their needs.

For almost 40 years Jayne lived and raised her family in a three bedroom home in Wakefield but as her children flew the nest and began families of their own, the house felt too big for Jayne to manage.

She knew a smaller home could be better for her and Merrifield Manor, our new retirement apartments for the over 55s, seemed to be the perfect fit.

Jayne said: “I had been looking to move to a smaller home for a while and, honestly, I would never have expected I’d choose an apartment but as soon as a I saw photos of Merrifield Manor I knew this was somewhere I could call home. My apartment is just so cosy and the right size for me. That’s what everyone says when they visit, that it’s just beautiful here.

“It’s given me so much peace of mind. Living on my own in a bigger home had made me nervous, especially at night. I feel really secure here, it was instant peace of mind.”

As an added bonus, current tenants who want to downsize to move into Merrifield Manor can get financial support to help with their move.  Jayne was happy to find out she’d get this support. She said: “It has been a massive help. I’ve been able to settle in properly and get new flooring and blinds sorted to help my new house feel like a home.”

Since moving in Jayne has settled into her new apartment she said: “I’m looking forward to meeting more of my neighbours as they move in and making use of the communal lounge together. Now that I’m settled here, I feel happy knowing that my previous home will be ready for another family to grow in.”
