Helping you get online and connected

Our Social Investment Team has been working hard to make sure our communities don’t get left behind in today’s digital world.

With a new focus on digital inclusion, we’re tackling the barriers that many people face when trying to get online, whether that’s confidence, access to devices, or simply knowing where to start. This work is all about listening to you and creating opportunities for people of all ages to feel confident and connected.

One of the first steps has been visiting the Townend Avenue Bungalows independent living scheme, arranged by our Engagement Co‑ordinator, Jane Russell. Residents shared their experiences of struggling with confidence when using devices and said they would welcome support to sign up to the customer portal and Housing Perks.

One resident told us: "We’ve never been asked about this or offered anything like it before. We struggle with anything online, so we welcome any support to get better and not be left behind."

We’ll be returning in the New Year to run tailored sessions, helping residents build confidence and independence online.

Alongside this, we’ve supported St Mary’s Chequerfield Community Project with a successful grant application to launch a Digital Drop‑In Hub. Based at St Mary’s Community Centre in South Pontefract, the hub will provide free computer and Wi‑Fi access, one‑to‑one and small‑group support, practical help with job applications, CV writing, online forms, and everyday digital tools.

Carrie Wilson, our Skills and Inclusion Team Leader, said: "This is about breaking down barriers. By listening to people and giving them the skills, confidence, and access they need, we’re opening doors to opportunities that many in our community have felt excluded from."

We’ll also be launching Digital Drop-In sessions at our Hubs in Wakefield and Pontefract in the New Year, helping you to access digital support in a new and accessible way.

This is just the beginning. With more sessions planned and new initiatives on the way, we’re committed to helping our customers feel confident online, access the services they need, and make the most of the digital world.
