The Spending Review 2025 and what it means for housing

Martyn Shaw Neil Warren (40)

Our Chief Executive, Martyn Shaw, shared his thoughts on the announcement.

"This is a landmark moment for social housing and one which will have a real impact on our communities and our commitment to building more homes for more people.

"The long-term investment announced in the Spending Review — a £39 billion Affordable Homes Programme, a decade of rent certainty, and steps toward a fairer rent settlement — gives housing associations the clarity and confidence we’ve been calling for.

"At Vico Homes, we’re already delivering on our ambitious growth plans. We’ve committed over £300 million to building and acquiring new homes, and this announcement gives us the green light to keep going — and to go faster.

"This isn’t just about numbers. It’s about places, people, and potential. With the right backing from government, we can do what we came here to do: grow so more people have a safe, secure, and genuinely affordable place to call home.

"We’re proud to be part of a sector that never stopped making the case for investment in social housing. And we’re ready to play our part in making this moment count."
