More vulnerable young people in West Yorkshire now have a safe space to turn to thanks to two new children’s care homes in Wakefield.
The homes, owned and refitted by us and run by Wakefield Council, will provide short-term placements for up to six children in need of a safe space. Each home has been thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming, safe and secure, with individual bedrooms for every child, bright and homely kitchens and gardens with areas to relax. Safety has been a priority too, with new features fitted throughout.
Les Thompson, Director of Property and Building Safety, said: “Every child deserves to feel safe and cared for. We’re really proud to work alongside Wakefield Council to create these homes and make a real different for young people in crisis. As well as this, we’re working with Wakefield Council to provide 67 new affordable homes because having a home is about belonging to vibrant communities and feeling the impact of home.”
Cllr Margaret Isherwood, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We’re pleased to have collaborated with Vico Homes to create these new homes which will enable our children to stay close to their communities and networks. And maintain vital connections to their families, school and wider support systems. All of which contribute significantly to promoting stability, wellbeing and improving long term outcomes. This initiative will make a meaningful difference to our most vulnerable children.”
The refit works inside the homes were made possible by the help of JPW, Certus, Bagnalls, Rilmac, KMR and Sunbelt.
