About the role

As the Compliance Officer – Fire your manager will be our Compliance Manager. You will work 37 hours a week on a permanent basis, working flexibly in the Vico Homes operating area with our Head Office in Castleford.

As the Compliance Officer – Fire you will be responsible for making sure our organisation meets all legal requirements and standards for fire safety.  You’ll manage assessment schedules, oversee contractors, monitor performance and data, and give internal assurance that we’re staying compliant.

It is an exciting time to be joining us and here are some of the initiatives that you will be involved in:

  • You’ll help implement and embed our recently developed fire safety management plan, ensuring robust processes are in place across our portfolio. Your work will support a consistent, risk-based approach to fire safety that aligns with current legislation and best practice
  • You’ll be involved in supporting the delivery of our ambitious Homes & Growth Strategy, ensuring that compliance and safety considerations are fully integrated into our plans for new developments, acquisitions, and investment in our existing stock

 

What you’ll do
  • Ensure compliance with Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety Act 2021, Building Safety Act 2022 and all other associated legislation & guidance
  • Manage cyclical Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) programmes, including reviewing and challenging of reports, and ensuring timely completion of identified remedial actions
  • Provide fire safety advice to colleagues, including our Building Safety Team
  • Monitoring and reporting on service and inspection programmes
  • Oversee contractor performance, including regular meetings, audits, inspections, and effective challenge of poor delivery
  • Translate strategy, policy and procedures relating to fire into objectives, KPIs, management information, and assist in production of report to boards and committees
  • Monitor compliance processes and identify any non-compliant areas or process improvement opportunities
  • Manage and maintain up to date information relating to fire compliance, including ensuring the operation and development of appropriate data management systems (IBS, Riskhub, Documotive)
  • Regular review of FRA suitability, Fire Strategies and Evacuation Strategies
  • Work with external stakeholders, including Fire and Rescue Services, and other regulatory and enforcing bodies as required
  • Review and investigate Fire Notifications, identifying trends, lessons learned and opportunities for improvement
  • Support the compliance team in providing assurance to the Board and internal stakeholder that Vico Homes is fully compliant with their statutory obligations and provide robust evidence base to support the position
  • Contribute towards the development of systems and processes to ensure effective safety and compliance management within the relevant areas of the organisation
  • Undertake inspections, audits, assessments and investigations when required
  • Engage with residents by responding to enquiries, complaints and requests in a timely manner
  • Participate in the evaluation of tenders and contractor selection as required
  • Keep up to date regarding developments and best practice in fire safety

 

What we’re looking for
  • A Level 4 qualification in a building related discipline, a Level 3 qualification in a relevant compliance area along with an appropriate Health and Safety Management course
  • Experience in the delivery and management of Property Compliance in a customer facing organisation with experience of auditing works, systems, contractors
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant Regulations, Codes of Practice and Legislation, H&S Legislation and Management affecting Property Compliance
  • An effective team player and communicator, who can engage, encourage and motivate others. Is self-motivated and be able to respond effectively to working under pressure to meet all required deadlines
  • Hold a full valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the Vico Homes operating area on a daily basis and to other locations as required
