Yesterday’s announcements from government set out a serious and much needed long term plan:
- 300,000 new social and affordable homes over 10 years
- £39bn in grant funding
- 60% of homes for social rent
- Right to Buy reforms, protecting more social homes
- Rent convergence is back on the table and we’ll be responding to the consultation
- New standards for competence and conduct of housing colleagues
- New standards for quality and energy efficiency
This is the kind of ambition and certainty the sector has been calling for — and it’s great to see action that backs long-term delivery with real funding.
At Vico Homes, we particularly welcome the shift towards protecting social homes and the recognition that we can’t fix the housing crisis without sustained investment in genuinely affordable homes.
There’s a lot of detail to work through — on funding, regulation, standards and delivery. But the direction is right, and the urgency is clear.
We’ll keep doing what we do best: delivering high quality, sustainable homes for people who need them. And we’ll keep working with our partners to make sure national policy supports long-term solutions, not short-term fixes.
We’re ready to play our part in delivering the homes people need and the vibrant communities they deserve.
