Celebrating our Training for Employment alumni

We’ve seen first-hand how our Training for Employment Programme (TfE) changes our tenants’ lives.

Many of our colleagues started their journey with us through TfE and have gone on to achieve incredible things. Some now lead teams, others have earned promotions and professional qualifications, and all have built careers they’re proud of.

To date, 47 people have joined us permanently through TfE, and every story is inspiring. If you’re looking for a fresh start, TfE offers our unemployed tenants up to 12 months of paid employment with on-the-job training, mentoring, and tailored development sessions.

You’ll gain experience in practical roles such as fencing and footpath renewal or office-based administration. No formal qualifications are needed for our Environment Officer roles, just basic English, maths, and determination. For our Business Support Assistants we ask for a Level 2 qualification.

We welcomed back colleagues who began as TfE Environment Assistants or Business Support Assistants at our alumni event. They shared stories of how job security opened doors, improving quality of life for their whole family.

This programme is about more than on the job experience. It’s about building confidence, learning new skills, and creating a strong track record with a trusted local employer. Our Community Employment Team will support you every step of the way, helping you secure permanent employment during or after the programme.

Keiran Hickman, Team Leader for Training for Employment, said: “Training for Employment is about more than jobs. It’s about giving people confidence and support to see what they’re capable of.

"Watching our alumni grow, achieve and transform their lives is what makes this programme so special.”

If you'd like to be considered for the programme, please contact the Community Employment Team on 01977 788825, by email or complete our Expression of Interest form.

A Community Employment Advisor will arrange to meet with you to discuss the opportunity further, and to agree how they will continue to support you to move towards obtaining permanent employment.
