Residents at our Moverley Flatts Independent Living Scheme were delighted to welcome pupils from DeLacy Primary Academy for a special bulb planting day.
The visit built on a successful event in 2024, when children and residents first joined forces to plant spring bulbs. The colourful blooms that followed were so well received that The Friends of Moverley Flatts applied for funding from Vico Homes to purchase even more bulbs to grow for 2026.
With support from our teams, our ground maintenance partners Tivoli, and members of the Friends group, ten pupils helped plant more than 2,000 bulbs around the grounds.
After the planting, the children joined residents inside for a warm drink and made handmade thank-you cards. Two pupils surprised Tenant Involvement Officer Claire Secker and the Friends group by presenting cards to show their appreciation.
Claire Secker said: “It was great to see the pupils working alongside our residents again. The planting brought everyone together, and we’re looking forward to enjoying the bulbs when they bloom in spring.”
The partnership between DeLacy Primary Academy and Moverley Flatts continues to grow.
These intergenerational events not only brighten the lives of residents but also give pupils the chance to learn about community and connection. And when the bulbs bloom this spring, they’ll be a lasting reminder of the smiles shared across generations.
