Simon Lightwood MP visited Malthouse View, our new affordable housing development in the centre of Wakefield.
Malthouse View, built by Caddick Construction, is a development of 50 affordable homes including 26 townhouses and 24 apartments. All homes will be managed by us and will be available for a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent.
Simon Lightwood MP took a tour of the development including having the first look at one of the almost completed townhouses.
We've received grant funding from Wakefield Council and Homes England to make this new affordable development possible.
Joel Owen, our Director of Development and Growth said: “We’re committed to delivering more affordable homes with plans to deliver 10,000 homes over the next 10 years. But this development is about more than just new homes. It’s about creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and ensuring more people have access to a warm, safe and affordable place to live. We’re delighted to showcase the progress being made here at Malthouse View.”
Simon Lightwood MP, said: “It was great to see the construction of 50 new, affordable homes at Malthouse View first-hand - known to most of us in Wakefield as the old Chantry House site.
"I’m especially pleased that Caddick Construction - a family firm with its roots in Wakefield - is building these homes. Local homes, for local people, built by local builders.
"This comes alongside our Government’s historic increase in public investment, including £39bn for social and affordable homes, the biggest longterm investment in a generation.
"For too many, the dream of a secure home has been out of reach. It's great to see Wakefield Council working with partners, like Vico Homes and Caddick Construction, to change that.”
Steve Ford, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction Yorkshire and North East, commented: “As a business headquartered in Wakefield, it’s especially important for us to be building new homes in the city and playing our part in delivering the high-quality, affordable housing that local people need.
“This development is key to supporting the continued regeneration and long-term success of Wakefield. By creating well-designed, sustainable homes and helping to shape thriving communities, we hope Malthouse View will make a meaningful contribution to the city’s growth and prosperity for many years to come.”
The development is regenerating previously unused land and is due to complete in autumn 2026 with residents expected to move in shortly after.
