We're growing together!

Grow Wakefield

We loved celebrating our partnership with Grow Wakefield and what better way than getting our hands a little muddy?

Our Chief Executive, Martyn, popped over to the mini allotment on our Portobello estate in Wakefield to chat with members and residents about what the gardening club means to them.

Grow Wakefield’s mini allotment scheme aims to turn unloved spaces into places to garden, so more people have the space to learn and grow their own food. The charity has worked with us to turn ten spaces across our communities into edible garden clubs where residents can give gardening a go!

The mini plots are smaller than the average allotment providing the perfect space for people who are complete beginners or just want to garden with friends.

From making new friends and learning new skills, to growing (and soon eating!) some seriously tasty veggies the group has gone from strength to strength!

Andy Austerfield, Chief Executive Officer of Grow Wakefield, said: "We were delighted to have a visit from Martyn and were able to show him how much the members of Grow Wakefield’s Portobello gardening club have transformed a formerly unloved space into a food growing place,”

“Our partnership with Vico Homes has meant that many more people have benefitted from successfully growing their own food and enjoying the many health benefits that brings.”
