How we manage asbestos in our homes
Our Repairs and Maintenance Team work across all our homes to keep them safe and in good condition.
When we need to check a material, trained staff take samples and arrange asbestos surveys. This helps us understand where asbestos is and how to manage it safely.
We assess asbestos in both lived‑in homes and empty homes before new tenants move in. This helps protect you, our colleagues, and anyone working in the home.
If any asbestos needs repairing or removing, we use specialist licensed contractors who follow detailed Health and Safety Executive guidance.
What do I do if I’ve found asbestos in my home?
Before you start working on your home you should contact us to get our written permission and so we can carry out checks. If you’ve been told there’s asbestos in your home, the safest thing to do is leave it alone.
Avoid touching it or trying to remove it yourself. Only licensed contractors should deal with asbestos, as they have the right training and equipment.
Try not to do any DIY work that involves drilling, sawing, sanding or cutting into materials that might contain asbestos. If you’re planning any DIY, give us a call first so we can advise you on what to do.
If you’re worried about something in your home that might be asbestos, do not disturb it and get in touch with us. We don’t usually remove asbestos that’s in good condition, but our repairs team will arrange for materials to be sealed if needed.
